There’s something quietly cinematic about early mornings in Chinatown. The city hasn’t quite shaken off the night, steam rises from the grates, and the light—soft, golden, glancing off weathered walls and neon signs—makes everything look like a dream. That’s where Julia and Max began their wedding day.
These two are warm, stylish without trying too hard, and totally in love. They chose our Elopement Cinematic Package for their City Hall wedding, and it was the perfect fit—blending digital photography, 35mm film, and a Super 8 movie to tell their story.
We met just after sunrise in Chinatown. The streets were still quiet, a rare thing in New York, and that quiet gave us space to wander and photograph them naturally—laughing, walking hand-in-hand, pausing to steal a kiss in front of red lanterns or vintage storefronts. They also enjoyed a light breakfast at the iconic Fay Da Bakery on Mott street which was a great photo op. Their connection felt effortless. The 35mm film brought a lovely grain and softness that matched the intimacy of the moment, while the digital shots captured the crisp, early light that bathed the city in a golden haze.
From there, we headed to the Manhattan Marriage Bureau for a private exchange of vows before entering the building. Julia and Max were joined by their moms—each beaming with pride and emotion. There’s something timeless about City Hall weddings, and theirs was no exception. Brief, sweet, and utterly genuine. As they stepped out onto Worth Street. Waiting just outside were their closest friends and family, gathered in a half-circle with smiles, hugs—and confetti.
Besides the digital and film shots, we captured the day on Super 8 film that folds all together into something that feels less like documentation and more like memory. Julia and Max’s day was all the reasons we love what we do: beautiful light, a real connection, a city that always surprises us, and people who love deeply and celebrate fully.
